Experience

Today I`d like to talk about impressive experience.

The most impressive experience for me was my working experience as an intern in the United States for a year. When I was a junior in the university, I thought It was hard to get a job these days and I was not ready to get a job yet, so it would be a big deal if I graduate like this. So, I was going to be an intern. I applied to English-speaking countries because I already could speak Chinese fluently. The reason why I took part in J-1 internship in United States because United states had strongest market and leading the world`s economy. Through my experience in USA internship, I could get global competitiveness and grow into global talent. I studied English hard and I was lucky to pass the U.S. internship through the K-move program.

I worked at Asset Management Dept at the headquarters of the Grand Super Center H-Mart, Inc. which located in Lyndhurst, New Jersey, United State. There were many kinds of assets. I was in the Facility management team, and my team managed tangible assets such as facilities, fire system, Security system, machines and others. The first thing I learned was to make PR (Payment Resolution) and process Invoice. I had to communicate with vendors via e-mail or phone line. For example, if I had many questions about the invoice, including a wrong tax rate, asked for evidence like signed work confirmation or work order, requested the revised invoice and others. When I wrote the email, I referred to past e-mail histories of team members to use real American expression. However, it was super hard for me to answer the phone call in English. The phone call normally could divided into two cases. The first case was someone was like "Hi! This is Kevin from xxx, Is Andy there?" Or, "Can I speak to someone who in charge of xx?". In this case, I just transferred the call to person in charge. In another case, there were some calls that introduces one's company and business, it was super hard to understand.

I'll tell you a funny episode. At first, I didn't understand who contacted for what purpose, because of my poor English. My supervisor had bald hair and a lot of beard. He looked very scary. I was afraid of being scolded if he knew that I didn`t understand. So, I played a petty trick. I was like” The person in charge of that is stepped out for seconds or he is on another line, can you call 5 mins later please?” After I hung up, I stepped out and stayed outside for ten minutes and waited until someone else answered the phone. I`ve overcome several difficulties like this, but I thought that I couldn`t keep doing like this, so I practiced listening by watching American movies, tried to talk a lot with Uber drivers, studied business English words, and used phone call instead of e-mail.

During my internship, I did my best on given works. I worked hard with responsibility, and my co-worker recognized and trusted me. My supervisor gave me more and more responsibilities and roles. I used SAP programs to deal with the problems that occurred in Facilities. I also managed inspection, violation, scheduled dispatch, and requested service sections and others.

People recognized me as the key person. The company offered me a scout if I would like to keep working with H Mart, provide me H-01 visa and give me more salary than new employee. I felt it was super nice to get recognized from others.
Experience is the best schoolmaster, only the school fees are heavy. A year of internships in United states was meaningful time for me. Thanks for all my precious relationship in United states. And Thanks for your attention.
